Nanea Golf Club

The clients, Charles Schwab and George Roberts, wanted a course in the style of their favourite courses in the U.K. and Ireland. They preferred a course that contrasted with the typical resort golf found elsewhere on the Island.

Set on the slopes of Mount Hualalai, the course incorporates strategies found on many classic links courses. Add to that the firm Paspalum turf and stiff sea breezes, and Nanea plays like a links course, too.

By using Paspalum from tee to green across the entire course we were able to create fast, demanding putting greens, intriguing contours, and choices; members of this private club enjoy the option to play low running bump-and-run shots instead of having to use an aerial route

With a combined role of assistant construction manager and design associate this was a great commission for Paul. Nanea was to become the first true collaboration with David Kidd. Paul learnt the art of design from David and the shaping team, and was instrumental in the re-routing of 5 holes on the front nine.

Nanea Golf Club is now rated at 76 in the World top 100 and 46 in the USA top 50 courses by Golf Digest.
