Project Description

In the winter of 2023 / 2024 Kimber & Glen were commissioned to carry out design improvements to the 2nd and 3rd on the Lochgreen course at Troon Links in Scotland. These holes lie close to the water table and throughout the winter months were often waterlogged with the 2nd hole often needing to be played to a temporary winter green.

Our remit was to redesign and rebuild the second half of hole number 2, (including a new approach area and green complex,) and then move onto the 3rd hole where a new set of teeing grounds was required as well as a raised fairway area that will allow the hole to be played year round. Our design solution saw the 2nd hole reduced from a short par 5 to a more testing par 4 hole whilst the 3rd was extended in length slightly and remains a challenging par 5 hole. The construction required the movement of a lot of material to ensure that the play areas were raised sufficiently above water table level and could be effectively surface drained.

This was a turnkey project as our company was subsequently appointed as the contractors for the work.  Construction was completed in January 2024 and play resumed over the new areas in the summer of 2024.
